That giant beautiful rock in the sky can impact us in way more than we think. When we take the time to really think about it, we can see patterns in the cycles of the moon and our own body and state of mind.

If can affect our mood, menstrual cycles, personality and much more.

In fact, the moon is so powerful that many cultures still use the lunar calendar to dictate festivals and holidays.

Back before the onset of the modern age, women would track their menstrual cycles by the moon. It is believed the moon has an effect on our hormones and cycle, just like it affects the tides of the ocean.

The moon rotates around the earth on a 29 day cycle, approximately the same amount of time as a menstruation cycle, and throughout this cycle a women’s hormones can change dramatically.

Why does the moon affect us?

It is possible that the moon has such an affect because the human body is up to 60% water. After all, if the gravitational pull of the moon is strong enough to affect tides and the way the earth spins, it surely is powerful enough to affect our moods.

The full moon has also been associated with a lack of sleep and poor sleep quality, due to increased light and a drop in melatonin.

There are 8 phases of the moon and each one can impact how we feel differently. It is believed the new moon is associated with rebirth and renewal while the full moon involves us letting go of things that no longer serve us.

So how can we harness this power? By building a connection with the moon.

How can I connect with the moon?

By simply having a connection with the moon, women can understand and predict their menstrual cycles more and more and be able to honour their body’s rhythm and moods.

  1. Spend time with the moon.

Each night, go outside and look at the moon. Not only will you begin to learn it’s cycles, you will also develop an appreciation and connection with it.

  1. Journal

Write down your feelings during each moon cycle and take note of any patterns.

  1. Create a ritual connected to the moon.

Choose a moon phase and do something special at that time each month. Or choose a different activity for each cycle and honour them all.

Use certain essential oils during each moon phase to really solidify your connection.
